POKOTABI / Unagi Shokudo
「 築地うなぎ食堂」x「築地の陽ちゃん」 By築地にっしん太助
At Tsukiji Unagi Shokudo in the Tsukiji Outer Market, visitors can savor an unagi-centric menu starting early in the morning, from liver-soup-accompanied unaju and hitsumabushi to market skewers.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Among the bustling stalls of the Tsukiji Outer Market, the aroma of sweet, savory soy glaze draws visitors to Tsukiji Unagi Shokudo. Opening its doors at 8:30, this casual unagi spot is well placed for kicking off an early market stroll or enjoying an unhurried, informal lunch.
The cornerstone unaju selections range in volume from Jo and Toku to Gokujo and the towering Daioh, with each box served alongside kimosui (clear eel liver soup), condiments, and crisp Narazuke pickles. Tender, glazed fillets resting over warm rice paired with sips of clean, delicate broth capture the quintessential market dining experience.
For a multi-step meal, hitsumabushi allows diners to enjoy eel plain, with varied condiments, and finally as an ochazuke in dashi broth. The menu also features ohitsu-meshi rice tubs such as Unagi-Meshi and Tasuke-Meshi, along with distinctive surf-and-turf combinations that bring together Japanese Wagyu beef and glazed unagi in a single bowl or box.
Beyond table dining inside, the shop operates an exterior counter serving fresh-grilled unagi skewers and cold draft beer for those wandering through the alleys. Whether stopping for a full meal or a quick bite on the go, it provides an easy, dependable eel option in Tsukiji.
